Leavenworth, Kansas. The Pilot Knob Amateur Radio Club held its annual Christmas Dinner on the evening of Friday, December 6, 2024, in Fellowship Hall of Pilgrim Community Church on Arch Street. Traditionally, the annual event includes a delicious dinner, various awards, gift giving and lots of reminiscing about the accomplishments of the year. This year’s event was attended by close to thirty Radio Amateurs and their family members.
Steve Rice, WØSER received the 2024 Ham of the Year Award. Past President Gary Auchard, WØMNA, presented the award certificate to Steve.
The citation on the award is lengthy and indicative of the many improvements Steve has made possible for the club throughout the year. He was elected as President of the club in December 2023 and has been one of the largest contributors of time, talent and treasure throughout his tenure. More importantly, he’s been a quiet force behind many of the advancements of our club in a year that has seen steady growth in both members and activities.
Under his leadership, PKARC has continued to enhance its reputation as a Special Service Club, a designator for a club that exists to go above and beyond for their communities and for Amateur Radio. They are the leaders in their Amateur Radio communities who provide active training classes, publicity programs and actively pursue technical projects and operating activities.
The club is also now perfectly positioned to take many of its initiatives to the next level while continuing to provide the basics for those who are just entering the hobby. That’s a big ask and Steve has delivered. He has been elected to serve a second term.
Congratulations to Steve, WØSER. The Ham of the Year Award for 2024 is well deserved.
