Advanced Weather Spotter Training
March 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Leavenworth County Emergency Management will host its annual advanced weather spotter training on March 5th, 2024 from 1900-2100 hours at the Leavenworth County Justice Center, 601 S 3rd Street, Leavenworth. We will meet in the basement training room. First responders, county volunteer weather spotters, and Radio Amateurs interested in being part of the weather spotter network are encouraged to attend. This event is NOT open to the public.
This is an annual task book training requirement for all KS-LV-ARES members. To remain at your current ARES® credential level, attendance is required. The requirement will be waived only for extraordinary reasons.
Per Zach Phillips, Master Deputy, “The training will consist of roughly 60 minutes of intensive weather training, followed by approximately 45-60 minutes of interactive exercise where they will walk the group through two severe weather scenarios. It is the goal to make this interactive portion more beneficial to spotter groups so we can emphasize safety while practicing communication, and storm structure identification. The reception to this format over the past two years has been extremely positive.”
